The LCD King: Epson’s TW-200H

There has been a long-standing debate between LCD and DLP projectors. A lot of people are hesitant to dive into LCD projector’s that are priced below $9000 or so because they complain that cheaper LCD projectors create a weave effect on the screen. The weave effect is essentially a pattern of vertical and horizontal lines that appear faintly on the screen usually with lower quality projectors. However, with the Epson TW-200H this effect is non-existent. Currently, this projector is retailing for around $3550 USD on most competitively priced websites. There are other LCD projectors that are priced in this range, but some people have complained of the weaving effect.

The projector lamp for the Epson TW-200H pumps out an impressive 1500 ANSI Lumens, and the resolution stands at 720p, making it 1240x720.

We recently tested the Epson TW-200H against some DLP projectors that cost about $2000 more than it on average. It was easily comparable in most categories including, brightness, resolution and picture quality. In fact, the TW-200H outperformed a couple of the projectors because some of the DLP’s had the common problem of ‘rainbowing’. The fan for this projector is amazingly quiet as well; we could hear many of the DLP fans overtop of the TW-200H’s fan.

Of course, another thing that impressed us greatly even though it had nothing to do with performance, was the projector’s sleek looking design. The TW-200H looks like it was designed on some far off futuristic planet. It has a round ovalish shape and white color. A gray cover piece on the front portion of the projector falls over top of the protruding lense, which has a greenish tint that reflects off of it when looking at from an angle. The projector has a low center of gravity, sitting on some low lying pegs that make it look professional and sturdy. There are also controls on the top back half the projector that are easy to access and labeled clearly.

For the money you will not find an LCD projector that is of this quality and priced this low. No wonder the Epson TW-200H is selling like hotcakes.
